Buchan Scotland big stoneware vintage pottery jug vase. Scottish painted ceramic

A lovely vintage large jug/vase by Buchan, Portobello, Scotland.

The stoneware piece has been glazed white and has been hand painted with abstract minimal flowers and patterns.

Blue and green decor.

The stoneware jug has been moulded and you can see the seam in places.

It’s stamped to the base with “125/37” and “M1/14”.

I would guess at 1950s vintage but I don’t know.

Tall – 19cm x 13cm widest at the belly.

Large capacity – would suit a cottage/traditional setting with flowers used as a vase.

Very good with no chips or crazing or anything.

Scheurich fat lava West German pottery vase, cream & brown pot. Pitted volcano

A striking ceramic vase by Scheurich, West Germany.

Dating from the ‘fat lava’ 1960s/1970s era, this has shades of cookies and cream.

The matt glazes are browns over cream, with heavy textures, pitting, holes, burst bubbles – typical fat lava.

Three fat lava dripping areas, and around the rim.

The base number is not readable so I’m assuming it’s Scheurich, as it’s typical of their shapes.

Mid Century Modern and retro in styling – perfect statement for your teak sideboard.

Glossy inside.

20cm tall.

10cm widest, 7cm wide at the rim.

Good condition from outside.

There are two hairline cracks inside coming down from the rim – not visible externally – can feel them inside joining.

There’s a funny graze of missing glaze to the rim too.

Rye Pottery vintage ceramic pin dish, ornamental plate. 1970s green sgraffito

A vintage studio pottery pin dish by Rye Pottery, Sussex.

The base stamp and white clay dates it to 1969 to 1978.

Rye Pottery was John Cole and Walter Cole. Walter (Wally) was responsible for creating the ceramics and running the pottery while John made the designs and created the patterns and decorations. As their work became increasingly popular, the Coles began to employ and train other staff – throwers David Sharp, Dennis Townsend, Raymond Everett, David Smeed and Jim Elliott who were later joined by Pam Goddard and June Woolley. No exact maker’s marks so it’s hard to know who this was by.

Wheel thrown and glazed white, the dish has a pale olive or pea green glaze with a brown fine starburst design over.

12.3cm wide – best for display and for a collector rather than use.

In very good condition with no real signs of age.

No chips or crazing.

Scheurich 242-22 pottery vase, cream & dark brown, Fat Lava era, West German pot

A striking curvy ceramic vase by Scheurich, West Germany.

Dating from the ‘fat lava’ 1960s/1970s era, this has shades of cookies and cream.

The glazes are deep brown/black layered with pale creams, the textures vary from fine pitting, shiny brown/black spots and smooth matt areas.

Flat and smooth bleeding spotted glazes over a simple shape – typically Scheurich.

Mid Century Modern and retro in styling – perfect statement for your teak sideboard.

Glossy brown inside.

The shape is 242-22… 22 denoting 22cm tall (well, 22.5cm).

11cm widest, 8.5cm wide at the rim.

Stamped to the base.

Would hold a good 12+ flower stems if used.

Good condition.

There is an internal hairline coming down from inner rim – not visible externally – with a tiny impact mark visible inside.

Anglia Pottery AP 110 vintage jug pitcher vase, 1970s blue green drip. Retro 9"

A 1970s ornamental pitcher jug shaped vase.

It’s by Anglia Pottery (England) – they specialised in retro figurines and ornaments with their distinctive blue/green liquid glazes.

The glaze is blue and green dripping liquid glazed, a dusky dark turquoise with greener streaks – greener than the photos show.

It’s a typical mid century styled simplified shape, not unlike a West German or Blue Mountain Pottery vase design.

It’s shape number 110 – signed to the base.

It’s mid sized 9″.

It displays very well but my macro lens has shown a hairline crack that’s not visible to the eye.

There’s some dried glue or something around this area.

No chips or crazing.

Functional – tested for water tightness.

A West German vintage mid century plant pot holder/indoor planter.

Very likely by Jopeko.

Circa 1970s vintage.

Middle random textured glossy orange strip, with pale speckled beige top and bottom.

Simple cylinder shape, cream inner.

12cm tall x 14cm wide – a medium sized.

Very good externally with no chips.

Some rust marks inside.

Some fine crazing internally.

Kitsch 1950s vintage style ceramic cat figure, yellow & teal, big head money box

A super kitsch and fun ceramic cat money box figure.

He’s in a 1950s style but is probably 1970s vintage.

Large smiling head with one paw lifted, seated.

Glazed vivid bright yellow with teal-coloured hand-applied glazed trims.

Unknown origin, British and Italian kitsch styling.

Very good condition.

Had had felt feet pads removed so base looks very good for age.

No maker’s marks.

A good sized 23 x 9.5 x 9.5cm.

No signs of age.

Please study photos also for condition – no crazing or chips.

Photos taken on a dull day so look very blue – this is bright yellow!

A vintage (1960s-1970s) mid century Italian round ceramic/pottery shallow bowl.

Mid Century Modern and fun retro in style.

Handmade in Italy, it’s hand painted in brown with a yellow stylised bird, over an off-white glaze.

Round and shallow – ideal for display.

It’s hand signed to the base with ‘Desimone *’ with an original vintage sticker.

Good condition… please see pics.

One glued rim chip bottom left and a fine hairline to the top of the image, both shown from both angles.

Any quirks in the glaze are deliberate from at the time.

21.5cm x 4.5cm tall.

A cool vintage/retro styled studio/artisan pottery vase.

It’s a pale clay/pottery vase, slab built (rolled out) and handmade.

Nicely glazed in browns and blues with horizontal stripes in different tones and finishes.

Looks retro 1970s, and would fit in with a mid century interior.

Cylinder body with flared angled rim.

Nicely made by an amateur.

Signed to the base – FMM ’18, so 2018.

I’ve not been able to identify the potter.

20cm (8″) tall x 6.5cm wide, 8cm rim.

Very good with no chips.

Slightly wonky. Holds water.

A stunning vintage modernist fine porcelain vase by Naamen, Israel.

Likely 1970s mid century vintage.

Very much like Scandi pieces by Tapio Wirkkala and Alvar Aaalto.

A funky retro shape, typical of the era.

It features random vertical folds or ribs in an oval shape, with cloud like rim.

Glazed glossy white over white porcelain.

18cm tall x 14cm x 9cm.

Stamped with logo to the base.

Good condition with a few small signs of age.

A short hairline top and bottom which don’t go through and could be from at the time of glazing.

A small patch of lost glaze, near the baseline hairline.

Tested for water tightness.

A simple, stylish, elegant piece.
