Description
A very tall single stem bud vase, designed by Lino Sabattini (1925-2016) for Christofle, France in the 1950s.
It’s a classic piece of mid century design by the iconic Italian designer.
It is a Modernist simplified silver plated form, straight and tapering in then out with the distinctive scooping pointy head.
Reflective silver plated finish (tricky to photograph).
Stamped to the base with “Christofle, France” then an OC logo (for Orfevrerie Christofle) and “Coll Gallia” (Gallia Collection).
I’m not sure when this particular vase dates from, but I believe it to be pre 1964, while he was working at Christofle.
The design dates from about 1950.
It’s the larger 36.5cm version of the design. 6cm wide at the base.
Used condition with surface scratching/marks and signs of age, see photos.
The silver has some tarnishing and ageing and loss of plate, so is speckled and discoloured.
A couple of small scratches.
Would benefit from a re-plate.
Offers accepted. I also have the small version in similar condition.
This larger one displays better than the smaller one.
