Description
A lovely (and weighty) Robert Welch nut cracker, from the Hobart range.
This is a newer version of the design. The Hobart Nutcracker is an original Robert Welch design from 1964. The iconic design is still available today as part of the Legacy Collection, celebrating 60 years of design from Welch’s workshop at Chipping Campden. Robert Welch was known for his stainless steel and silver ranges for Old Hall, along with these lovely modernist cast iron pieces.
Made from solid cast iron, coloured matt black (some are shinier), with a steel spindle. It uses a simple wind up and down mechanism. Height is 150mm (when fully wound down), width is 125mm across the top handle. 190cm tall when fully wound out. Would take a larger nut of around 40mm tall. Weighs a chunky 1.4kg.
Very good condition. Fully functional and an iconic design. Black is good and black.
Being handmade metal work it has seams and rougher areas under the black.
Looks good!
