Description

A vintage studio pottery oval vase or pot, by Carn Pottery, Penzance, Cornwall from the 1970s or so…

Carn Pottery was John Beusmans; he used muted blue, brown and green glazes over a pale neutral-toned clays and is best known for his geometric Cubist or angular pieces. This is an oval cylindrical vase, coloured with greeny brown, then rubbed back to reveal highlights and lowlights. A pale stoneware/clay sculpture with a glossy glazed inner. John was inspired by the Cornish sea and landscapes and primitive Celtic/Runic Studio Pottery designs.

This example has one side with a geometric design, the other with a sunflower. Which side do you prefer? The green is a washed-out and muted barely-there olive green with neutral earthy tones. Hand signed to the base with model number ‘N1’ along with his stamp.

13cm tall x 6.5cm wide x 4.3cm.
Very good condition.

There’s lots of shapes and colour tones to collect!
