Description
A pair of little candle holders (or paperweights) designed by Jens Quistgaard for Dansk Designs IHQ, Denmark in the 1960s. In Denmark these candle holders are called “silver onion”.
These are an older original pair made in Denmark from before production went overseas.
So circa 1960s-1970s mid century vintage.
They’re a Modernist simplified form with a reflective silver plated finish (sorry about my reflections!).
They have two bases so can either sit vertically or tilted at slight angle.
These little metal candle holders feel heavy and tactile and quality.
Stamped on the bases with ‘Dansk Designs Denmark IHQ’.
They are miniature at just 6cm tall x 3.7cm wide (smaller than a Japanese version I had).
They are miniature at just 6cm tall x 3.7cm wide (smaller than a Japanese version I had).
The openings are 8mm wide x 1cm deep – they take a tall narrow tapered Scandinavian style candle.
Both in good used but shiny condition.
Some signs of age and some discoloured areas to the silver plate.
