Description
A lovely vintage Studio Pottery cat by Simonsbath Pottery, Exmoor. Circa 1970s to 1980s vintage.
Simonsbath Pottery was Rod Billington, the previous owner and one of the founders of Quantock Design (West Bagbrough, Somerset). The Simonsbath pieces were made at his home studio away from the main production at Quantock Pottery. This cute and comfy laying cat is typical of Simonsbath and Quantock’s clay, colour tone, hand finishing and techniques. He’s all warm neutral/ochre tones – these are all different being handmade. He would have been hand moulded in clay.
Unglazed biscuit clay with a tan/ochre coloured wash, typical of the 1970s Studio Pottery era.
This tom cat is content and comfy with an inquisitive face – I love him! A nice example.
Roughly 11 x 7 x 6cm. Excellent condition.
Maker’s marks to the base (unreadable).
