Description
A 1955 sample mug, showing leaf decor, writing sample and an internal illustration.
It’s scribed with ‘Compton’ to the base – I don’t know if this is by Compton Pottery who ceased trading a year later.
The mug is a rough stoneware type pottery that has been wheel thrown.
Natural clay colour, with clear glaze over.
Hand painted leaves around the outside and a hand painted bunny inside – it was April/Easter when this was done.
The base reads “T.M.H. (decorator’s initials?), for the paint shop, April 1955.”
It’s scribed “Compton 6”.
Great for a collector of 1950s ceramics.
8cm tall x 9.5cm base.
