A vintage studio pottery small vase or pot, by Carn Pottery, Penzance, Cornwall from the 1970s or so…
Carn Pottery was John Beusmans; he used muted blue, brown and green glazes over a pale neutral-toned clays and is best known for his geometric Cubist or angular pieces. This is wheel thrown vase, coloured with pale blue and pale green, then rubbed back to reveal highlights and lowlights. A pale stoneware/clay sculpture with a glossy glazed inner. John was inspired by the Cornish sea and landscapes and primitive Celtic/Runic Studio Pottery designs.
This example has a central geometric panel with triangular infills. The green is a washed-out and muted barely-there olive green with very pale sky tones. Hand signed to the base with model number ‘7’ along with his stamp (feint).
9.5cm tall x 7cm wide.
Good condition with no chips or cracks.
Some surface marks to the matt surface.
