Description
A retro Cinque Ports Pottery large platter (from The Monastery, Rye, Sussex).
Handmade with typical decor and colourings of the Rye Potteries – brown/chocolate tones – bubbly brown wax/oil resist patterns over glossy brown and white, see photos. There are bubbles and splodges and brush strokes. The pattern is freeform circles and V-shapes. Stamped to the base with the Rye Monastery logo. Circa 1970s.
A larger platter or ornamental dish: 43cm tall x 19.5cm wide x 6cm deep.
Very good condition considering the are/era. Being handmade, it’s unique with hand painted lines and brush strokes. Very good internally with not many signs of use. To the base there’s a historic chip and a patch of crazing out of sight. Please see all photos.
A good useable, collectable and displayable example of retro British Studio Pottery from the 70s.
(Big and heavy to post).
