Description
When I found this I thought it was 1970s retro, with its vibrant plastic orange… How wrong I was!
It’s on a Design Classics website where it is described as:
“A Pollopas tea warmer – made by Tropas / Troisdorf – Germany, around 1930. Body Pollopas, lid metal with typical Art Deco-decor. Pollopas is a kind of early plastic which is based on phenol casting resin. It has similar qualities like bakelit, but it ws possible to produce it in brighter/ shiny colours. The production which was stopped in 1939 cost three to four times more than those of bakelite. Meanwhile, Pollopas-items (which are often outstanding in design and quality) belong to the rare examples of early plastics. – Height 2.8′, diameter 6.7′. Design Ludwig Koenig (attr.). Marked underneath with moulded manufacturer-stamp.”
This one is in very good condition considering the age/era – please check all photos.
Steel pierced removable flat ‘lid’ to hold a pan.
Early plastic/bakelite moulded orange outer with TP Pollopas logo to the base.
Space within to hold a tealight candle (food warming type, with metal outer protection).
Untested for use. Probably more suited to a collector.
17cm wide at top x 7cm tall.
Postage available through the Ebay Global Shipping shipping.
