Description

A vintage studio pottery art vase, by Carn Pottery, Penzance, Cornwall from the 1970s or so…

Carn Pottery was John Beusmans; he used muted matt blue, brown and green washes over a pale neutral-toned clays and is best known for his geometric Cubist or angular pieces. John was inspired by the Cornish sea and landscapes with primitive Celtic/Runic Studio Pottery designs.

This vase is a conical tapering straight-sides shape. The outers of this vase were probably moulded, then different contrasting decors were hand applied. One side has a looping geometric design, the other a stylised flower and leaves. It has muted pale denim blue colours, moody sky tones. A pale fine cream clay sculpture with a glossy glazed inner. It has a Carn Pottery stamp to the base and a hand scribed model number ‘N34’… the stamps wore off over time and with use.

13.2cm tall x 8.3cm wide round base x 4.6cm round rim.
Very good condition with no chips or cracks or damage.
