Description
A super art pottery large cat figure/statue by David Sharp, Rye, Sussex.
A big siamese type cat, literally life sized at a big 33cm tall.
Moulded/cast hollow ceramic/pottery with white glaze and hand painted dusky blue patterns, inspired by flowers/nature.
Circa 1970s to 1980s vintage – from after he left Rye Pottery and worked on these figures.
Stylised, modernist, simplified, large and attractive with a smooth sleek glossy white glaze.
He’s 33cm tall and has a hand signed and inscribed base – there are two sets of inscribed initials.
Also written ‘David Sharp Pottery, Rye’ and what looks to read 82.
33 x 16cm wide x 13cm deep. 1.5kg.
Very good condition.
A small chip to the top of the left ear, see pics.
Some tiny natural flaws as you’d expect for something handmade, fired and hand decorated.
I can’t find others like it.
