Description
A small vintage handmade (wheel thrown) vase or pot, by Rye Pottery, Sussex.
This is dated precisely to 1955-1956 and is handmade and painted by David Sharp (stamped with a D).
Rye Pottery was John Cole and Walter Cole. As their work became increasingly popular, the Coles began to employ and train other staff – such as David Sharp, Dennis Townsend, Raymond Everett, David Smeed and Jim Elliott.
The old red clay was dug up by the Coles locally so dates it to an early vase, along with the mid 1950s base stamp.
Wheel thrown and glazed off-white, the slightly flared simple vase or beaker has a simplified floral decor with lines.
Grey blue with deep red.
Very good condition, as manufactured/hand made with natural glazing quirks.
A petite 9cm tall x 7.5cm widest at rim.
Slightly triangular rim.
Being small it’s more suited as a posy vase for smaller flowers.
Perfect for a collector.
