Description
A vintage Brutalist and mid-century styled ‘Manhattan’ block vase by SylvaC, England.
Circa 1960s to 1970s vintage, this was designed by George Matthews I believe.
It’s from the Manhattan series of pots, vases and troughs, and is in a tan reddy brown colouring.
Square rectangular block shape, smooth and tactile around the edges with four flat sides with linear raised cross patterns.
It’s an unusual design for SylvaC – they’re known more for their figurines.
Stamped on the base with ‘3938 SylvaC Made in England’… hard to read.
A mid sized 15.5 x 8 x 8cm – would fit about a dozen stems if used.
Looks very good for age and era. No chips.
Some natural rim flaws under the glaze from at the time of manufacture.
A more unusual colour way.
