Description
A super 1950s or so cast iron black sleeping cat door stop or ornament.
A beautiful stylised laying cat, simple, stylish, pretty.
A good sized 26cm wide x 15cm deep x 17cm tall, just smaller than life size.
No maker’s marks, could be earlier than 1950s.
He’s in nice vintage condition.
Some natural ageing and rust patches, see pics.
Hollow and cast from two pieces, the head was welded and screwed on.
Welding marks to the neck where the pieces were joined.
Satin black finish, could be easily re-touched.
I can’t find another like him, he’s lovely with good proportionate features.
Probably best for indoors. Could be posed anywhere as an ornament – a fireside companion?
Weighs a very heavy 3kg.
