Description

A hard to find stylised and simplified female figure forming a candlestick.

Designed for a single standard tapered dinner candle (and perfectly holds a tealight candle too).
By Dennis Townsend at Iden Pottery, Rye, Sussex.
Studio Pottery from the 1970s.

The traditional yet Modernist female figure has a floor length flared skirt with black wax resist linear pattern.
She has her arms held in front of her, her dress finishes at her shoulders/bust and her simple neck and head are glazed white with small speckles. I suppose she has a white hat to her head (the holder).

24.5cm tall x 13cm widest at the base.
Stamped to the base.

Great condition with no chips.
Inside the candle holder there’s some slight crazing.
