Description
A super and stylised bull or ox by Japanese metal artist/sculptor Sotaro Saegusa (Japan 1911-2006).
Circa 1960s – but could be a later production of this design.
The solid metal figure is brutalist/modernist blocky with a tan and gold coating.
A white metal underneath, probably aluminium.
Moulded signature to one side.
13 x 8 x 5cm.
Weighs roughly 450g.
Good used.
As you can see some of the coating has come away to reveal the silver metal below.
I like this natural wear/patina/highlighting.
Representing the zodiac Year of the Ox, this could symbolise perseverance, stability, and prosperity in Japanese culture.
