Description

A vintage ‘ugly’ fish pottery piggy bank/money box.
Along the lines of those by Jema Holland or ARS or Bitossi Italy – deliberately ‘grotesque’.
Exaggerated bulging eyes, big mouth and big tail.
Made in Portugal and stamped to the base. Unknown maker – can’t find another like him.

I believe this little fellow is 1970s vintage, and decorated using styling/colourings from this time.
He’s a glossy brown.

Pottery/ceramic shaped moulded fish with coin slot and removable original plastic bung/stopper.
Roughly 12cm tall x 16cm deep x 9cm wide.

Good condition, with two small chips to the baseline, see photos.

More for display for a grown-up, than for a child’s toy – although it would look good out of reach in a nursery.
