Description

A vintage handmade small round bowl, by Rye Pottery, Sussex.
This is an unusual pattern and is a mid century 1950s original.

Rye Pottery was John Cole and Walter Cole. As their work became increasingly popular, the Coles began to employ and train up other staff. The ‘P’ on this indicates it was by Pam Goddard and is mid 1950s vintage. The old red clay was dug up by the Coles locally so this also dates it to a 1950s Rye Pottery piece.

Wheel thrown and glazed, it’s a short wide round bowl – ideal for nuts or just for display.
The off-white glaze has a black fine grid painted on with black whirls and atomic style greeny stars over. Underneath it has light pinky stripes, there are stripes internally too. Stamped/incised to the base with ‘RYE’ and ‘P’.

Good condition, as manufactured/hand made with natural glazing quirks like tiny bubbles/pits.
If you look very closely you can see some very fine signs of age to the rim, fine lines.

A petite 6cm tall x 10cm at rim with small black foot.
Great for a collection.
