Description
A lovely and curious Briglin owl…
Although he is definitely a Briglin design, he is hand signed JV to the base, for John Virando.
John not only worked for Briglin, he worked for Callandar Potteries – so this little fellow could be from either studio pottery.
He’s a red clay owl, with a typical white glazed face with holes for eyes, low pointy beak and pointy ears.
The ‘feathers’ are scratched sgraffito.
He has small holes to the top of his head – he’s a pomander rather than a piggy bank.
His body is shades of duck egg blue green and black.
An excellent signed example.
No bung, but I think he’s more a collector’s item and ornament.
